Garmin Rino Radio – More Than Just Another GPS

Garmin Rino Radio

If you are an owner of a Garmin Rino Radio and like to hunt, then you are holding magic in your hands. I know that this is a camping blog, but everyone I know that loves to hunt, also loves camping.

So Listen Up!

I’m about to tell you how I use my Garmin Rino 130 to tell me where the elk are.

My hunting partners and I have been using hand held GPS units for some time now and upgraded to the Rino 130’s two years ago. The two biggest reasons that we went to the Garmin Rino Radios is the 5 NOAA weather channels and the ability to know where everyone is at.

The Garmin Rino combines a hand held GPS and a two way radio into one unit which makes it nice to not have to carry two separate units. This also gives you a magic device that allows you to know where the elk are.

Let Me Explain:

The Garmin Rino Radio is fast becoming one of the most popular GPS units among hunters and there is a rino radio behind just about every tree out there.

As mentioned above the Rino allows you to know where your hunting partners are by showing you an icon of them on the GPS map every time they press their button to talk.

The Rinos have a scan feature that allows you to scan every available channel and it will stop on a channel whenever someone presses their talk button.

Now, as soon as a hunter sees some elk crossing a hillside, the first thing they will do is get on their Garmin Rino Radio and tell their hunting partners exactly where the elk are and which direction they are heading.

Are you starting to see where I’m going with this?

Once we get into position and we know where everyone is at, we will switch our radios to scan and wait for the other hunters that are out there to tell us where the elk are and which way they are heading.

We tried this for the first time last year on opening morning and had an elk within 15 minutes. Some hunters that were two hilltops away alerted us to a small herd of elk that were moving to the North from their position and that allowed us to get in position.

So, if you are the proud owner of a Garmin Rino Radio, make sure you take it hunting and give this a try. I would love to hear your comments on what you think of this magic device.

If you would like to get your very own Garmin Rino GPS make sure that you check out eBay before buying anywhere else. They have the best prices you can find on brand new Garmin Rino Radios.

Here are some links to Rino GPS units that are available on eBay.

Neat Site, I laughed when i seen the checklist of things to remember to bring on your camping trip. I went undefeated at the game Uno last year at our family reunion. I advise anyone If they are traveling in the northern California and their looking for a great camping spot, check out Richardsons Grove state recreation area. Nestled in the redwoods with a warm and comfortable feeling all year round.

I didn’t even know such a thing existed to be honest. That looks brilliant. Does it pin point other users on the screen?

Any one else that has a Garmin Rino and is in your area will show up on your map every time they key their mic.

That’s why they are so great for hunting. If someone in your hunting party gets an animal down, all they need to do is call you on the radio and it will give you their exact location.

What a brilliant idea! Like I said admin, never knew such a thing existed! I could imagine this being handy for mountain biking, quading or anything of that nature. If you get injured, the rest of your group can find you really easily. And often even explaining where you are in woods or fields can end up giving a bit of a wild goose chase, and at a time you could do without it.

Camping is a great way to spend vacation time with your family. Not only do you save money, but you can have the time of your life in the great outdoors! If there is a lake nearby, there is swimming and water skiing. You can bring your portable grill and cook the fish your husband may catch in the lake in his inflatable fishing boat, or you can go down the rapids in you inflatable kayak.. There is noplace like the outdoors in summer, for fun!

That is so awesome – I knew there were handheld GPS units out there, but I had no idea they were interactive and interconnected like this, at least at the consumer level. When I was in the Army in the mid-90’s they were just developing the requirements for a similar interconnected system. And now it’s a mass market product! Thanks, this was very informative.

That is a great list you got there, i have been doing some reviews on gps my self, and I can tell that a GPS from Garmin is always reliable. The Rino series has a lot of features and it’s packed with 500 waypoints and 50 routes, a hunt/fish calendar, hands-free voice activation and much more. You have made a really good recommendation, especially for those who love hunting.
